The Giants Causeway in Northern Ireland

I like geology and geological formations so when I read about the Giants Causeway I knew I had to visit on my trip to Northern Ireland.  The Causeway was created by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago which resulted in the cooling lava creating the hexagonal shaped columns.

The Irish Folklore story of how the causeway was created is much more interesting than the scientific version.  It involves a Giant Warrior named Finn MacCool who built the causeway to spy on a rival giant on a Scottish island.  You can read more about the story here.

The Causeway is fun to walk around because the columns form natural steps which makes it easy to climb up and down the formations.

It was a really interesting place. I wish I would have had more time there to explore.
