The Best Place To View Sunset In Sedona

Sedona Arizona Sunset

Sunset in Sedona Arizona

Sedona is a magical place that is amazing no matter what time of day it is.  However during sunrise and sunset the red rocks of Sedona are particularly spectacular.  I was lucky enough to view both on a recent trip.

The best place to view sunset is from two viewing areas on Airport Road.  The first viewing area that you will come to on your drive up has a small parking area for about 10-15 cars.   It takes less then ten minutes to hike from the parking area to the top of viewing area.  The hike is easy but if you are not able to hike keep driving to the top of the Airport Road.  I thought this was a better place to view the sunset because you can see both sides of the valley and it is less crowded.

The Red Rocks of Sedona are amazing at sunrise

The viewing area at the top has a huge parking lot and a dedicated viewing area.  I think that this area is actually better for sunrise because the sun will be coming up behind you and illuminating the valley down below.

If you are in Sedona make sure that you get a chance to view the sunrise or sunset.  It will definitely be worth your time.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Airport Road is a short drive from anywhere in Sedona.
  • The lower viewing area is less crowded but has limited parking.
  • Visit the Sedona Tourism Bureau Website for more information on the area.

Sedona is beautiful. One of our best memories is the Pink Jeep tour we took out into the desert, so much fun, even though we came back covered in red dust – well worth every penny for the experience!

The Jeep tours are a lot of fun. They are the best way to get an up close view of the rock formations.

I just love how the sun glides down the rocks. Great shots Jeff! We’re currently camped aside Lake Tekapo in New Zealand and love watching as the sun sets, the light washes over the scenery. It’s so beautiful.
